Series 7
General Securities Representative Examination
The Series 7 is the main qualification for registered representatives — the people who sell and recommend stocks, bonds, mutual funds, options, and other securities through a broker-dealer. It goes much deeper than the SIE on products, suitability, and firm procedures.
- Who it is for
- Stockbrokers, financial consultants, and registered representatives at broker-dealers who need full general securities registration.
- Prerequisites
- You must be sponsored by a FINRA member firm. You also need to pass the SIE before Series 7 registration is granted (or pass both in either order, but the SIE must be completed).
- Typical path
- SIE → get hired and sponsored → Series 7. Many reps then add Series 63 (state law) or Series 66 if they also advise clients.
