Series 66
Uniform Combined State Law Examination
The Series 66 combines investment adviser law with state securities law in one exam. It is designed for people who already hold (or will hold) a Series 7 and need both broker-dealer and adviser registrations without taking separate Series 63 and Series 65 exams in many states.
- Who it is for
- Registered representatives who will also act as investment adviser representatives at the same firm — for example, dual-registered broker/adviser roles.
- Prerequisites
- You must pass (or have passed) the Series 7 before your Series 66 registration becomes effective. The SIE is also required in the standard FINRA path.
- Typical path
- SIE → Series 7 → Series 66 for dual-registered roles. If you only advise at an RIA and do not need broker registration, Series 65 alone may be enough.
- Administered by
- FINRA (on behalf of NASAA)
- Exam format
- 100 scored questions (+ 10 unscored) · 2 hours 30 minutes · 73% to pass (73 correct)
